Only a few days after reaching the age of 94, Martin Volkmann
passed away on February 15, 2009.

When on October 27, 1971 this carpet aficionado invited "ruggies" to an informal exchange on carpets, nobody knew, that this casual get-together would create an annual Treffen, which bears his name, and brings together connoisseurs and friends of Oriental carpets, flatweaves, and fabrics.

The Volkmann-Treffen is now an institution beyond the German-speaking world.

Even if in recent years his age prevented Martin Volkmann from attending the annual Treffen, his spirit was always present.

The rug community has lost a great man and personality.
